A whole lot of commercials on television aim at capturing the youth segment with a high quotient of sexual innuendo. But is 'sexy' advertising always good advertising?
The ban on FTV for broadcasting 'obscene visuals' has raised a few questions about what can be termed as obscene visuals. While the fashion channel defaulted on guidelines, there is a host of new commercials on television that are high on sexual innuendo. These adfilms may be in the clear as far as obscenity guidelines go, but the jury is out on whether they are clean enough for the small screen.
Take the ad-film for the social networking site Ibibo.com, for instance. The commercial has three girls sitting and talking, when one of them tell the others how this hot guy came to her farm yesterday and stole her melons. That's when one of the girls, rather well-endowed, gets up in jealousy, pushes out her chest and says she too can impress him with her melons. It turns out that they are discussing the 'Farm' application on the website.
